Brick by Brick
Glenwood Tower remains one of the iconic fixtures of Raleigh’s Glenwood South neighborhood. Managed by the Raleigh Housing Authority (RHA), this high-rise serves residents aged 50 and older.
When the Raleigh Housing Authority (RHA) noticed structural cracks and water leaks creeping into the building’s iconic brick veneer, they called BECS to make sure the building stayed true to its historic charm—while getting a much-needed, long-lasting fix.
Our team jumped into action, carrying out a deep dive into the façade with advanced field tests and some good old-fashioned detective work. Our findings gave us the blueprint for a detailed repair plan, that informed our design solution. From replacing worn-out flashing and shelf angles to reinforcing every single brick with structural pinning, the team left no stone unturned. We even went the extra mile with forensic water testing to track the source of leaks.
Once the plan was set, BECS guided RHA through the contractor selection process, making sure they partnered with the right crew for the job. Our work didn’t stop there, though. Throughout the entire project, BECS was hands-on, overseeing the façade repairs, custom through-wall flashing, and designing metal components to blend seamlessly with the building’s timeless look.
The roof? That was a whole different challenge. With a roof crowded with HVAC and satellite gear, we had to get creative, bringing in tower cranes and organizing downtown street closures to pull off the replacement. We specified a top-of-the-line 30-year warranty KEE membrane and left nothing to chance, from infrared scans to wind uplift tests.
From start to finish, BECS stayed deeply involved. We kept the project on schedule, within budget, and made sure quality was never compromised with regular site inspections, bi-weekly meetings, and detailed daily reports.
Today, Glenwood Towers shines once again. The building looks better than ever, and thanks to BECS, it’s built to last. Safe, sound, and standing proud for the years ahead!
